Broome was born in 1967 in Cleveland, Ohio. His father was a heroin addict and his mother was a prostitute. He grew up in a violent and unstable home, and by the age of 12, he was living on the streets. He spent his teenage years in and out of juvenile detention centers, and by the time he was 18, he had been arrested more than 20 times.

Despite his troubled upbringing, Broome always had a love of learning. He taught himself to read and write at a young age, and he found solace in books. He eventually earned his GED and went on to college, where he studied English and creative writing. After graduating from college, Broome began teaching at a high school in Cleveland. He has since become an award-winning writer and has published several books, including Punch Me Up to the Gods.

Punch Me Up to the Gods is a beautifully written and deeply moving memoir. Broome's prose is lyrical and evocative, and he has a gift for capturing the complexities of human experience. He writes about his childhood with unflinching honesty, but he never wallows in self-pity. Instead, he focuses on the resilience and strength that he found within himself. He also writes about the transformative power of education and the importance of finding mentors who believe in you.

Punch Me Up to the Gods is a must-read for anyone who is interested in themes of race, poverty, violence, and redemption. It is a powerful and inspiring story of one man's journey from darkness to light.
